research
our current work is focused on circulating factors (i.e. hormones) — produced by organs throughout the body, shaped by environment and somatic state, and readily measured in human bio-samples. many of these factors can enter the brain and tune neural circuits to shape cognition & behavior, and are often dysregulated in common brain disorders. importantly, changing hormone levels (insulin, GLP-1, thyroid hormone, etc.) has led to successful treatments for many diseases of modernity, from diabetes to depression. our work spans:
